Stative entlasten den Fotografen in vielerlei Hinsicht, denn Gehäuse und Objektive bringen unter Umständen ein großes Gewicht auf die Waage. Von Berlebach, Delkin, Cullmann, Hama, Manfrotto oder Dörr stammen Spezialausführungen, beispielsweise für Autoscheiben, Astro- oder Video-Aufnahmen und andere Zwecke. Novoflex etwa bietet ein als Wanderstock einsetzbares Modell. Die Reise- und Tischstative von Manfrotto, Hama oder Cullmann hingegen sind Modelle auf drei Beinen. Leicht und handlich, sind sie - unterwegs jederzeit griffbereit - kompakte Helfer für den mobilen Einsatz oder wenn die Belichtungszeit mal nicht ausreicht. Einbein- wie auch Schulterstative von Benro, Kaiser oder Rollei sind ähnlich handlich und empfehlen sich, wenn keine Aufstellfläche vorhanden ist. Mit dem Zubehör wie der fixierbaren Wasserwaage ist die Kamera dennoch ausrichtbar, ähnliche Modifikationen erlauben eine verstellbare Halterung wie der Kugelkopf. In verschiedenen Materialien erhältlich, etwa in Edelstahl, Aluminium, Holz oder Kunststoff, sind die besonders leichten und stabilen Modelle in Carbon ausgeführt. Spontan aus der Hand heraus können die Videostative für Filmaufnahmen genutzt werden. Leuchtenstative ermöglichen vor allem bei Aufnahmen mit zusätzlichen Scheinwerfern oder Fotolampen, diese bedarfsgerecht zu platzieren.
