Video setup for a wildlifedocumentary filmmaker
Johannes is an ambitious wildlife filmmaker and we want to show you his equipment he uses to film in the bush!
In his work with the FX 3, the Sony SEL 200-600 is used, with this lens and his tripod combination, it is possible for him to film the animals close, even at great distance, without the animals being startled. The recordings live from the moment and that the animals are not startled. To protect against detection and damage, Johannes uses a lenscoat. Of course, the distance also offers protection from wild animals such as leopards, lions and Co.

Why a Sony FX3?
The low light performance and the possibility to use the body with different mounting points. Other advantages of his new FX3 to his old Sony Alpha 7s II is the majority of focus points and the double fps at 4k.
The highlights summarized:
- robust body
- more mounting points
- better ISO behavior
- more FPS at 4K
When it has to be closer: Sony 16-35mm
When it does come to an interview, close-up or landscape shots, he falls back on the 16-35mm, which gives him enough cropping and great sharpness.
Conclusion
In wildlife videography, focal length matters, but so does performance in low light situations! When choosing a tripod, it is best to choose one that can support the heavy equipment and still be placed close to the ground. The movements with the camera will be very smooth thanks to the fluid head mounted on the tripod and ensure a quiet work. The DJI Mavic is used in its setup for cinematic landscape shots and aerial shots over wildlife. The whole thing is rounded out with the 16-35mm, one of the standard cine lenses it allows for great cinematic shots for people and landscapes.
We find Johannes setup very suitable for his work and are happy that he presented his setup to us!
