Neben Vollformatkameras bietet Canon auch Spiegelreflexkameras mit kleinerem Sensor im sogenannten APS-C-Format an.
Die Vorteile dieser Sensorgröße liegen zum einen in der Handlichkeit der Kamera, da diese kleiner und leichter entworfen werden können und zum anderen in der Preisgestaltung. Die kompaktere Bauweise der Kamera zahlt sich auch für die Objektive aus, da diese einen schmäleren Bildkreis ausleuchten müssen und wegen des kleineren Spiegels tiefer in das Kameragehäuse ragen können. Dies ermöglicht ebenfalls eine kompaktere Bauweise des Objektives. Das dafür optimierte EF-S-Bajonett kann sowohl die EF-, als auch die EF-S-Linsen aufnehmen, letztere können jedoch nicht an Canon Spiegelreflexkameras mit Vollformatsensor und mit reinem EF-Bajonett genutzt werden.
Zu beachten gilt ein Umrechnungsfaktor von 1,6 der Brennweite von EF-Objektiven an Spiegelreflexkameras mit APS-C-Sensor. So ist eine Brennweite von 50 mm auf Kleinbild/Vollformat umgerechnet eine Brennweite von 80 mm. Neben den kleineren und leichteren und zumeist auch günstigeren EF-S-Linsen kann der Besitzer einer Canon Spiegelreflexkamera mit APS-C-Sensor also auch EF-Objektive in Betracht ziehen. Somit steht ein großartiges Spektrum an Objektiven zur Auswahl, welche allen Foto- und Video-Anforderungen gerecht werden dürften. Hierbei überspannt das Angebot von Canon alle gängigen Brennweitenbereiche, vom Superweitwinkel und Weitwinkel über den Normalbereich bis hin zum Telebereich. Hierbei besitzen die meisten Objektive einen integrierten Bildstabilisator (IS) und schnelle und leise Motoren zur Fokussierung (USM, STM). Zusätzlich bietet Canon mit der L-Serie besonders hochwertige Objektive an, welche sich nicht nur durch erstklassige Abbildungsleistung , sondern auch durch eine robuste spritzwasser- und staubgeschützte Konstrukton auszeichnen; hierbei hat Canon auch Spezialobjektive wie Lupen- oder Tilt/Shift-Objektive im Portfolio. Nicht nur Canon hat für seine Spiegelreflexkameras Objektive im Portfolio. Auch Dritthersteller wie Tamron, Tokina, Samyang und Sigma haben spezielle auf das EF-S-Bajonett abgestimmte Objektive in ihr Programm aufgenommen. Diese Objektive decken ebenfalls viele gängigen Brennweitenbereiche ab und sind zumeist auch mit integriertem Bildstabilisator, leisen Motoren und Innenfokussierung ausgestattet, auch sind diese meist für viele ambitionierte Fotografen preislich sehr ansprechen. Von Traditionsherstellern wie Zeiss oder Meyer-Optik-Görlitz, welche auf höchste optische und haptische Qualität setzen, bieten jedoch keine reinen EF-S-objektive in ihrem Portfolio an. Eine Spiegelreflexkamera bietet nicht nur eine Vielzahl an Variationsmöglichkeiten, was die Wahl des richtigen Objektives betrifft, man hat auch eine hervorragende Auswahl an Zubehör. Dies reicht Stativen über Taschen bis hin zu kleineren Gadgets, welche das fotografieren erleichtern. Aber auch von Blitzgeräten bis hin zur großen Studiobeleuchtung; hierbei sind fast keine Grenzen gesetzt.
