  • Ultra-Telezoom
  • very high imaging performance
  • two processors for autofocus and VC image stabilizer
  • very fast and precise focusing and particularly smooth image stabilization
  • at the focal length 100-400mm a light weight of 1115 g

Japanese lens manufacturer Tamron, a leader in the production of high-quality optical products, announces the development of the 100-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD ultra-telephoto zoom lens for digital SLR cameras with 35mm sensors. The new model offers very high imaging performance thanks to its advanced optical design. Three LD (low dispersion) elements made of special glass ensure effective correction of optical image errors, and eBAND coating promises flawless image results even in difficult lighting situations. The lens barrel is partly made of magnesium, which contributes to the low weight of the new ultra-telephoto zoom. It weighs just 1,115 grams, making it the world's lightest* Lens in its class.

Like the current generation of Tamron SP Lenses, the 100-400mm is equipped with a "Dual MPU" that uses two processors for autofocus and VC image stabilization. This technology allows very fast and precise focusing and particularly smooth image stabilization.

The possible uses of the ultra-telephoto zoom Lens can be further expanded with Tamron's separately available accessories: The fully compatible 1.4x teleconverter extends the focal length of the 100-400mm by a factor of 1.4 to a maximum of 560mm. In addition, the ultra-telephoto zoom Lens is compatible with Tamron's TAP-in console, which allows the autofocus, focus limiter and image stabilization to be adjusted to the photographer's individual needs. In addition, an Arca-Swiss compatible tripod clamp designed specifically for the 100-400mm is commercially available as an optional accessory.

The combination of the special core features and the optional accessories makes this Lens very interesting for photographers who shoot a wide range of subjects. It is also suitable for low-light photography, whether for freehand shooting or long exposures using a tripod.

*Compared to other 100-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Lenses for 35mm SLR cameras (as of September 2017; source: Tamron).
