Detail reproduction and area-specific noise reduction technologies simultaneously preserve image detail and reduce image noise. Highly effective mid-to-high sensitivity performance lets you shoot at high ISOs - the a7 III covers an extremely wide sensitivity range, from ISO 100 to 51,200.
Subtle gradation from shadows to bright areas
A dynamic range of up to 15 steps is achieved at low-sensitivity settings, thanks to a redesigned CMOS sensor and image processor that ensure smooth gradation from shaded to bright areas.
True-to-life color reproduction
Moreaccurate color reproduction straight from the camera -
Color reproduction performance has been significantly enhanced. As a result, the subjects in your shots have more natural colors that faithfully reproduce how colors actually look.
No shake with 5-axis stabilization
High-precision stabilization achieves a 5.0 step improvement in shutter speed through a stabilization unit and gyro sensors and algorithms. This system compensates for camera shake with many Lenses and provides excellent performance.
14-bit RAW output for rich color gradation
For more natural gradation, the BIONZ X image processor and front-end LSI process image signals in 16-bit form. This processor enables data output in 14-bit RAW, even in silent mode or continuous shooting mode.
4D FOCUS - Autofocusing evolves
Autofocus performance has been improved by optimally applying the same autofocus innovations as the α9. So once the α7 III captures subjects with unpredictable movements, such as dancers, boxers, and wildlife in action, it keeps them in focus.
Furthermore, this camera has an impressive number of phase-detection autofocus points: 693 of them, covering about 93% of the image area, and 425 densely placed contrast-detection autofocus points for better focusing.
Fast hybrid autofocus combines AF phase detection for excellent speed and tracking with high-precision AF contrast detection. This system doubles autofocus speed.
Improved AF tracking for fast-moving subjects - Autofocus performance inherited from the α9 provides AF tracking with greater precision during continuous shooting of fast-moving, action-packed scenes. Faster readout of the image sensor enables tracking of even complex subject movements and precise anticipation of sudden movements.
Improved AF algorithms contribute to high autofocus precision at light levels down to EV-3 and provide more reliable autofocus for scenes in the dark.
693-point focal plane autofocus with phase detection not only covers a wide range and responds instantly - it provides high tracking performance even with an A-mount lens mounted via Lens Adapter LA-EA3.
Eye-detection AF revolutionizes portraits -
With the α7 III, eye-detection AF can now be used in AF-C mode to achieve effective eye detection or tracking performance when shooting: Even when the face is partially in darkness, even when the subject is looking down, and even when backlit.
The α7 III features a touch focus function and a touch pad function. This allows you to intuitively move the focus area with a finger movement when using the viewfinder.
Use autofocus for photos while the focus area is magnified in the viewfinder or on the monitor, and magnify the view after autofocusing.
AF fields/points can be changed when you switch between horizontal and vertical orientation. You can assign focus point settings to custom buttons.
Fast continuous shooting captures the most important moments
The α7 III can take continuous shots at up to 10 frames per second with AF/AE tracking and up to 8 frames per second in Live View mode. The camera also supports silent shooting at up to 10 frames per second with AF/AE tracking and maximum resolution.
Up to 177 JPEG (standard) images, 89 compressed RAW images or 40 uncompressed RAW images can be captured in a single burst.
This camera enables silent shooting at up to 10 frames per second with AF/AE tracking. Noiselessness can be critical in scenes where even quiet noise can thwart the ideal shot.
Artificial light flicker is detected, then the shutter is timed to minimize possible exposure and color anomalies in images taken at fast shutter speeds or during continuous shooting.
Groups of continuous images can be quickly and easily sighted, deleted, or protected. Access a menu screen to change settings or control photo playback during data processing.

Discover the world at wide angle
With an aperture of F2.8 and a wide-angle zoom range of 16 - 35 mm, the powerful G Master opens up a wide range of possibilities. The Lens achieves outstanding resolution from the center of the frame to the edge at any selected zoom setting and at any focus distance, as well as impressive background bokeh if desired.
High resolution from center to edge
An uncompromising optical design ensures exceptionally high resolution from center to edge when shooting landscapes, architecture, or other similarly sized subjects.
New standards in resolution and bokeh
It features two XA (extreme aspherical) elements from Sony with a surface precision of 0.01 μm. Distortion common to wide-angle zoom lenses, as well as astigmatism and image field curvature, is securely under control with this Lens. Less attractive bokeh, such as so-called onion rings, are successfully prevented by the XA elements, resulting in only wonderfully smooth bokeh in the out-of-focus areas.
Perfect balance between resolution and bokeh
Sony's advanced dual XA (extreme aspherical) element optics achieve exceptionally good resolution, reduce distortion, and provide wonderfully smooth bokeh.
Lightweight and compact for greater portability
Weighing just 680g, this small lens is the ideal complement for compact E-mount cameras, and is not only easy to carry, but also easy to use.
Fast, high-resolution zoom with F2.8 and 16 - 35mm
The first G Master wide-angle zoom lens lets you take full advantage of the high-resolution potential of current and future camera models. The Lens combines Sony's most advanced optical and mechanical technologies for exceptional image quality and clarity.
High resolution from center to edge
An uncompromising optical design provides exceptionally high resolution and excellent contrast. This results in landscapes, architecture, interiors, or shots of similar wide subjects that are razor sharp from the center of the image to the edges. Aspherical elements minimize distortion, while ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements effectively compensate for chromatic aberrations.
Clarity and contrast in any light.
Sony's original Nano Coating suppresses unwanted reflections that can cause light flare and ghosting in backlit or other difficult shooting situations. The result is consistently high contrast and excellent clarity. By suppressing reflections across a wide spectrum of light, you gain flexibility in framing and composition, especially at wide-angle focal lengths. (1. Nano coating/ 2. Glass/ 3. Light amount)
For beautiful background bokeh
Close-up photography with an aperture of F2.8 can produce exceptionally beautiful background bokeh. Use this option, for example, to create sharp portraits against a beautiful, dynamic background with soft, expressive bokeh.
Optimal resolution at any focal length
Consistently high resolution is achieved from infinity to the minimum focusing distance. The Lens features a floating focus system with two independently driven focus units. This minimizes all types of aberrations and promotes sharp, high-resolution images from infinity focus, such as landscapes, to very short focus distances for portraits or similar subjects.
Fast, precise autofocus
Two DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) systems with original Sony ultrasonic motors move two focus units in a so-called floating focus system. These focus units are moved into position with high precision to ensure the most accurate focusing possible. The DDSSM systems are also exceptionally quiet, which comes in handy when shooting video and stills alike.
Lightweight and compact for greater portability
First-class size and weight reductions do not affect the outstanding optical performance of the unit. An ideal complement to compact E-mount cameras, this lens gives you a system that's portable, easy to use, and great to take along on hiking trips or photo excursions, such as to the mountains.
Eleven blades for beautiful bokeh
Sony's original 11-blade circular aperture contributes to even better bokeh quality. Design and materials have been revised to maintain the circular shape of the aperture, and strict circularization standards have been applied to bring out the full bokeh of the Lens without limitations.
Smooth, versatile operation
A focus hold button, manual focus ring, AF/MF switch, and other controls provide flexibility in handling the Lens. The focus hold button can be customized via the camera menu and assigned a variety of functions to suit the user's needs.
Fluorine coating on the front element
The front element of the Lens is coated with a fluorine coating that protects against smudges and fingerprints and makes them easier to wipe off if they do stick to the surface.
High reliability in the toughest conditions
This Lens is dust and moisture resistant all around for added protection and reliable operation in the toughest conditions. Effortlessly create shots in light rain or wind.
